Tips to make the most of Tohupiri labels for your te reo Māori learning:
- If you are a beginner learner, we suggest learning a few words at a time (5-10).
- Once you feel that you have committed a word to memory, remove the label for that word so that it doesn't become a crutch
- Practise the words in context, even if you are just self-narrating. For example, 'Kei te whakaweto au i te horopuehu,' 'I'm turning off the vacuum cleaner (horopuehu).'
- Place labels in heavy traffic areas. There's probably more than one cupboard in your house, but you should place the Tohupiri label on the cupboard you use the most.
- Leave the words that aren't applicable to you for last. You can still learn the word for 'blender' even if you don't have a blender - but leave it until you have learnt all of the words you will use everyday.
- If you are concerned about your pronunciation we recommend Te Aka Māori Dictionary. You can also check out our pronunciation highlight reel on Instagram.
